When to Propose in Dubai: A Planner’s Month by Month Guide

The comfortable window for an outdoor proposal in Dubai runs from late October to mid April. Summer proposals work, but they move indoors, onto the water after dark, or to sunrise. And for 2027, plan around one date almost nobody is talking about: Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February, which very likely puts Valentine’s Day inside it.

Weather guides can tell you the temperature. What they can’t tell you is which venues refuse sunset slots, how long a desert build takes in October, or what happens to a balloon flight when the fog rolls in. That’s what this guide is for. It comes from my planning diary, our booking records and the venue rules we work under every week.

What our bookings show

Until those numbers are in, the pattern I see every year is simple. Enquiries start rising in late September. December and February fill first. And summer, which most people write off, is when the hardest-to-get suites and dates are suddenly available.

The year at a glance

Temperatures are typical daytime highs. Sunset times are approximate for the middle of each month. Evenings run several degrees cooler.

Timing rules the venues don’t advertise

This is where couples who plan alone get caught out. The time of your proposal is often set by the venue, not by you, and very few of them put it on their website. A few from our current packages:

Jumeirah Al Naseem, facing the Burj Al Arab. Our dinner setups on this beach can’t run at sunset. The styled heart frame setup can be timed for sunset, but the slot is restricted and has to be confirmed.

One&Only The Palm beach cabana. Two slots only: 8 pm or 10 pm.

The Next Level, on top of Aura Skypool. Sunrise only. Our DAWN AND DIAMONDS setup exists because of that rule, and sunrise over the Palm turns out to be one of the prettiest things in the city.

So “what’s the best time?” really has two answers. The month decides the weather. The venue decides the hour. I plan around both before I send anyone a quote.

October and November: the season opens

The first evening you step outside and don’t regret it usually lands in the second or third week of October. Beach and rooftop setups work after sunset from the start of the month, and the desert follows from mid October.

Two things catch people out. First, the early sunset. In November the sun is down by about 5:35 pm, so a sunset proposal means she needs to be dressed and at the venue by 5 pm on a working day. That shapes the whole cover story, so decide it before you pick a Tuesday.

Second, Diwali. In 2026 it falls on 8 November, and a lot of our couples from India want the proposal inside the festive week, often with family flying in. India is our largest source market, and Diwali week is one of the first weeks of the year to fill. December and January: peak season

National Day (Eid Al Etihad) on 2 December, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and the Dubai Shopping Festival come back to back. Hotels set blackout dates and minimum spends for these weeks. Those are the hotel’s numbers, not ours, and I’ll tell you upfront if your date carries one.

My view on New Year’s Eve: a lovely night to be engaged, a hard night to get engaged. Every rooftop is booked for its own party, roads around Downtown close for hours, and at midnight your moment shares the sky with the whole city. If you want fireworks in the photos, propose on 30 December or 1 January, or talk to me about private fireworks. The permit takes 10 working days, and it can only be filed after the venue issues its no-objection letter, which only happens once the venue fee is paid. In practice that’s a month of lead time.

Winter also brings morning fog, and fog grounds hot air balloons. For every sunrise flight we hold a backup morning, which is why I never schedule a balloon on the last day of anyone’s trip. Rain is rare but it does come a few days each winter, so every outdoor plan I run has an indoor fallback agreed with the venue in advance.

February and March 2027: Valentine’s Day inside Ramadan

Ramadan follows the lunar calendar and moves about 11 days earlier each year. In 2026 it ran from about 17 February to 19 March. In 2027 it’s expected to start around 8 February, with Eid Al Fitr around 9 or 10 March, subject to the moon sighting. Valentine’s Day 2027 is a Sunday, very likely in the first week of the Holy Month.

You can still propose. Hotels and restaurants stay open, and since 2024 the old rules on eating and drinking in public during fasting hours no longer apply, so a lot of what you’ll read online is out of date. What changes is the rhythm of the city, and that’s what I plan around:

Timing. The city pauses at iftar, the sunset meal that breaks the fast. The hour before is heavy with traffic and the hour after is when restaurants fill. I plan Ramadan proposals for after iftar, when the evening slows down.

Entertainment. Some venues scale back live music, belly dancers and fire shows during the Holy Month. If your idea depends on performers, I confirm with the venue for your exact date before you pay for anything.

Behaviour in public. Modest clothing and a hug after the yes. Our legality guide covers the detail.

Your three options for February 2027: propose on Valentine’s Day in a private setting after iftar, move it before Ramadan begins, or wait for the days after Eid, when the festive mood is back and the weather is still excellent.

April and May: early starts and late nights

April evenings are still pleasant. In May I move the clock. Balloon pickups are around 4:30 am, the flight lasts about an hour with a falcon show on board, and breakfast is served in the desert afterwards, all before the heat arrives. After-dark beach setups work well too, once the sand has given back the day’s heat.

June to September: summer lives indoors

Summer proposals are real, and hotels are quieter, so you can get the suite or the date you’d never land in December. Three things I learned from years of summer setups:

Lenses fog. Step from an air-conditioned lobby into August humidity and every lens mists over. Our photographers bring their cameras outside early so they’re ready when you arrive.

Flowers wilt fast. Outdoor florals go in as late as possible and stay out of direct sun.

Wax candles slump. We use LED candles, from a few hundred on a rooftop to 4,000 on our largest desert build. On camera, nobody has ever spotted the difference.

One practical note for private cinema proposals: we need your photos and videos 48 hours in advance to build the film, so gather them before you fly.

What time of day photographs best?

Golden hour, the 20 to 30 minutes before sunset, gives soft, warm light. It suits beaches and the desert. After dark suits skylines: the Burj Khalifa is a night shot. Sunrise is quiet and cool and you have the sky to yourselves. It’s the smart choice from May onward.

Last minute is possible. We’ve built proposals in 48 hours. But a shorter runway means fewer venues to choose from.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to propose in Dubai?

Late October to mid April for outdoor proposals. December, Diwali week and February fill first, so book those six weeks or more ahead.

Can you propose in Dubai in summer?

Yes. From June to September, proposals move to hotel suites, Ain Dubai pods, private cinemas, sunrise and yachts after dark. Summer usually has the best venue availability.

Can you propose in Dubai during Ramadan?

Yes. Plan the moment for after iftar, dress modestly in public, and check whether the venue allows live entertainment on your date.

Does Valentine’s Day 2027 fall during Ramadan?

Very likely. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, subject to the moon sighting, putting Sunday 14 February in its first week.

Do Dubai venues allow sunset proposals?

Not all of them. Some beachfront venues only allow setups after sunset, some Palm resorts give fixed evening slots, and some rooftops are sunrise only. Check the venue’s rules before you plan the time.

How far in advance should I book a proposal in Dubai?

Two to three weeks for most setups and six weeks or more for peak dates. Custom rings, performers, fireworks and aerial banners need longer.
